Diclofenac is used in the treatment of painful conditions of joints, lower back pain, sprains or bone fractures, inflammation of joints (frozen shoulder, gout), pain and swelling following skeletal muscle, dental and other minor surgeries. It is also used in treatment of migraine.
How it works
Diclofenac belongs to group of medicines called non-st**dal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the production of a certain chemical substance in the body that causes pain, fever, and inflammation.
Common side effects
fluid retention., abnormal liver function tests, stomach ulcers or bleeding, ’spinning’ sensation, loss of weight or poor appetite, skin rashes.Rare: drowsiness, itching, hepatitis, Common: headache, tiredness, diarrhea, dizziness.
Diclofenac should be taken with food or immediately after meals.
Take the medicine with food to avoid stomach upset.
Do not take antacids withh magnesium as they can interact with the drug.

Do not drink alcohol while takig this drug.

Evidence from studies in breastfeeding women show that there is a definite risk of side effects to the breastfed infants. However, use of the drug in breastfeeding women is acceptable in spite of the risk to the infants, if the benefit of the drug to the mother outweighs the risk to fetus. Q. Is diclofenac nephrotoxic?
Diclofenac can interfere with normal kidney function when taken at larger doses for a longer duration. Patients should follow the advice of the doctor regarding its uses.

Diclofenac may worsen the symptoms of asthma in some patients already suffering from asthma. Talk to your doctor before taking diclofenac in asthma.
